It’s not always going to be about “off the beaten track” attractions in these destinations, it’s more about provinces and places that you might not have otherwise thought to go to. Those places will also have their top attractions.
While we have you here…
We also want to suggest spending a little more time in Bangkok, assuming you were only going to spend 1-2 days in the capital.
If you stumbled upon Thailand Rocks on your own, you were likely looking for places “off the beaten track” anyway. This is what the purpose of this website is to suggest. However, we often meet tourists coming to Thailand who only fly into and out of Bangkok, rather spending time in Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Chiang Mai, Pai, etc. It may sound counterintuitive to our project, but we do want to encourage you to spend time in Bangkok.
Rather than spending 1-2 days here, consider that there is so much to see and do in this lively city. And when it comes to food… there are LOTS of options you can try, for very different budgets. I can’t seem to find it anymore but I recall a blog post or an answer on a forum thread discussing the question of why people like visiting Bangkok. If I recall correctly, the author did not enjoy her first visit as much, but the second time she began to truly appreciate the city. The city is full of life – and you can get delicious street food meters from the entrance of an expensive fine dining restaurant, affordably-priced yet amazing foot massages, and so on.
Everyone is likely to have a slightly different experience when visiting a destination, but you don’t know until you try. Sometimes it takes more than one visit – sometimes it’s about staying in the right neighborhood for you. Of course, your mileage may vary and you might prefer a different city, town or island during your trip to Thailand. Likewise, the information may not always be up to date or correct as it is based on past experiences and/or research. Some places may be more adventure oriented, for example, and you may be expected to have a certain skill or physical activity level, etc. prior to trying it out. Some places may also be more suited for couples vs. solo travelers, or better for solo travelers than for families, etc. We have tried to keep the list quite general. Some places are only accessible by boat.
We hope you have a fabulous time here regardless. Thank you for choosing Thailand as your destination.
Are you on a DTV visa?
If you’re on a DTV visa, then you might be wanting to travel to multiple different places in Thailand, spending a few weeks here and a few weeks there; or, you might even be looking to base yourself in a more remote place outside of Bangkok.
While we are curious to see where tourists and locals choose to visit based on the places we have mentioned, we are also very curious to see where – or what kind of place – you might choose to be based while staying in Thailand – if you’re not intending on hopping from place to place.
